Most bathroom cabinets are likely stocked with the ubiquitous and all-purpose tub of Vaseline. I recently, however, unearthed a potentially better beauty alternative that hails all the way from the pharmacy shelves of France and has shoppers stocking up in twos and threes.
Although Homeoplasmine has virtually the same skin care uses as Vaseline and Aquaphor, the ingredients included in its formulation are vastly different.
While the American-made formers are great skin protectants, lip balms, and moisture-lockers, they don’t contain very many active ingredients. Homeoplasmine, which, aside from its paraffin base, features homeopathic inclusions such as calendula officinalis and phytolacca officinalis — two plant-derived and anti-inflammatory substances that have a number of potential skin benefits from promoting wound healing to increasing hydration and preventing oxidative stress, a factor that can cause premature skin aging.
Additionally, this salve-like balm contains a few other homeopathic remedies for inflammation such as byronia, along with boric acid and benzoin, two ingredients that, when topically applied, may possibly help serve as antiseptics.
Nearly all reviewers confirm that this nature-based combination has made Homeoplasmine their “go-to ointment for everything” and has addressed everything from severe dryness to rapidly healing superficial wounds with little to no scarring and seemingly overnight. One reviewer also claimed that it’s performed miracles on their aging lips and works well under lipstick to minimize the appearance of those dryness-related lip lines.
Here lies another notable difference from the occlusive healing ointments you might be most familiar with: Homeoplasmine’s finish is completely matte, a factor that some appreciate because you can apply it to larger and more visible areas of the face, without looking greasy or overly shiny.
The words of endorsement don’t end there. In fact, you can read more promising reviews just ahead, or stock up on a couple of tubes of Homeoplasmine yourself from any of the links listed.
Promising Amazon reviews:
“My go-to ointment for everything. I use this on my lips, on sore skin, on burns, on cuts, on dry skin, on scars on just about everything. Love it.” — Kissy Suzuki
“This is better than Vaseline! I’ve been consistently using this in my skincare routine as a hydrating lip balm, or to moisturize dry spots during winter. I love that it doesn’t have any scent and it stays long when applied. It’s not tacky and heavy, plus I love that it’s packaged in a tube for easy storage or to just plop it in a bag. If you have chapped lips, especially in the cold seasons, then get this! It will keep it moisturized and repair it overnight.” — Johanna
“Oh yeah, France. This stuff has worked miracles on my aging lips. It works great under lipstick or by itself. Also very quickly healed some abrasions my son got on The back of his hands doing yardwork. I don’t know if I’d recommend it all over for the face.” — Sandra S
“This sceptic agrees it is magic. I typed angular chelitis into Amazon and this came up. That’s when you have those painful cracks in the corner of your mouth. After 2 nights of using this they disappeared! And if I feel them coming back I throw this on and I’m all good. Works great for chapped lips as well. I put it on cat scratches and I swear it quickens the healing as well as makes the scar way less visible. I am stocking up- this is a miracle worker.” — Emily
“This is so much better than vaseline. I use it on my lips under longwear lipstick and it stays put and is comfortable all day. BUT! True love set in once cold and flu season started and I got sick. Because of the matte finish, I can put this around my nose to soothe the burning and not look like a grease ball. It is wonderful stuff!” — Phoebe
“Straight up magical. This cream is BY FAR the best facial cream or lip cream. Within a day this cream healed dry, cracked lips. I use it for face moisturizer and it is the absolute best. If my house was on fire this cream would be the only thing I would go back in there for. The only lotion worth saving. I would literally push people out of my way to get this cream. 100/100” — Amazon customer
